Hilton issues “Be My Guest” (BMG) certificates for hotel-related issues or part of some giveaways and raffles they have run.
A reader dropped us a note about a positive experience of converting expired BMG to Honors points due to the inability to use it during the pandemic.

I thought you might be interested in knowing about this possible change in Hilton’s policy regarding expiring or expired Be My Guest certificates?
They’ve previously offered extensions, but have now offered 70,000 points instead. I snapped that offer up straight away – extremely generous, I thought, and much better suited to my needs.
The points were added to my account within minutes of me accepting the offer, although they said it could take up to 48 hours.

Subject: Expired Be My Guest certificate
Dear REMOVED:
My name is Patricia. Our office recently received your request for an extension of the currently expired Be My Guest certificate REMOVED.
As a company, we recognize the way our guests stay with us during these times can be unpredictable. To ensure you are able to enjoy a future stay, I would like to assist by offering 70,000 Hilton Honors Points, which is equivalent to the value of the Be My Guest certificate number REMOVED.
We are offering the Honors Points so you no longer have to keep up with a physical piece of paper or spend time on future extension requests. While Be My Guest certificates are limited to Brand and room type, your Honors Points can be used on multiple redemption options beyond a hotel stay, including Amazon, Lyft etc. and do not expire with annual stay or account activity.

If you agree to this offer, reply directly to this email to accept, verify your Honors account number and our team will add the Honors Points to your account within 24-48 hours. Once the Honors Points are added to the account, the certificate will be voided in the system, so you can discard it, as it will no longer be valid. So that you are aware, once you verify that you accept the amount of Honors Points offered, they cannot be adjusted or reversed and will be considered final.
Should you decline the Honors Points offer and prefer to keep the certificate, please know additional extensions of the expiration date are not being offered. Therefore, the certificate REMOVED would have to be redeemed by the current expiration date.
Should you have any additional questions relative to this matter, please reply to this email and we will be happy to be of further assistance.
Best regards,
REMOVED

Conclusion
These Be My Guest (BMG) certificates are a unique way that Hilton compensates Honors members who have faced inconveniences at their affiliated hotels.
You just book a nonrefundable rate for a standard room on their website and hand in the certificate at the time of checking in, and you are then all set. The property charges the daily rate back to Hilton, who assigns it back to the offending hotel.
I am glad Hilton acknowledges that BMGs may have been impossible for many to use during the pandemic due to travel bans and lockdowns and has decided to issue Honors points for those affected.
If you have a recently expired BMG, please contact Hilton to have them issue points to your account instead.
