The building and Hilton signage have been up for a couple of years, but the owner must have felt it was not worth opening before the pandemic travel slump was over.

There is a notice on the website that all the facilities are not yet functional, including the Club lounge, which should open on February 1.

The rates appear to be high, which is the usual tactic with hotel openings. These are priced high before slowly coming down to a sustainable level. There is no reason for this hotel to cost significantly more than the nearby Renaissance or Le Meridien hotels.

Hilton usually awards these Be My Guest certificates for issues at their branded properties that the hotels have not corrected or they have failed to compensate guests for inconveniences adequately.

These certificates are really flexible but don’t come with adequate information on how to redeem them.

This specific certificate has the following small print:

Redeem this certificate for one night of complimentary lodging (standard room and tax only) at any Hotel within Hilton Worldwide portfolio of brands.

These certificates are usually only valid for a night at a brand that is listed on the certificate, but the text in this instance is crystal clear that it is valid for a night at any Hilton Worldwide portfolio of brands, i.e., can be used for a night, at Waldorf-Astoria or LXR.

The only day it cannot be used is “New Year’s Eve.”

In this instance, you can pull up any Hilton-affiliated hotel as the voucher is valid for any Hilton-affiliated property.

You need to ensure you book the “standard” room as they are not always well identified. Then, you need to book the most flexible rate that is not prepaid. No need to use prepaid or noncancelable rates.

Here’s this voucher would wipe the $2,500 charge for the night.

When checking in, you hand the certificate, and the property charges the night to an internal Hilton account. You will likely get points for the booked price, qualifying nights, and any possible elite benefits.

If I already have a reservation, is it eligible for the promotion?

If I check-in before January 1, 2024, or check-out after May 1, 2024, do I still earn credit for that stay? 

Registered members checking in before January 1, 2024, will receive credit for their stay if the stay is completed on or after January 1, 2024, and prior to or on May 1, 2024.  If you start a stay in the middle of the promotion period and check-out after May 1, 2024, you will not receive the bonus.

Will I receive Bonus Points with the “Points Plus” promotion for any stays within the promotion period that I completed PRIOR to registering for the promotion?

I like sales that allow you to buy a significant enough number of points you can redeem for five nights at most of the Hilton’s sought-after and expensive resorts (you need some flexibility and preplanning to find availability).

Honors awards include all fees and taxes, including resorts and destination charges, often an additional 20-30% on top of the initial rate displayed. All elite members from Silver to Diamond get the fifth night free when redeeming points.

The best use of Hilton Honors points is when and where the paid rates are through the roof, such as the Maldives or French Polynesia properties.

The message is annoying for those who have left reaching a higher tier or requalifying for the last minute, as you won’t see your current nights or stays in the app for 2023 until sometime in 2024. Last year, the status page was down for more than two weeks.

Hilton Apps Have Removed Status Progress

In 2022, the total nights consumed, rollover nights, and points earned were all available on the website.

I am unsure if they are shown for non-lifetime Diamonds because there is no information on my account like there was exactly 12 months ago.

UPDATE: Hilton Honors “Tier Last Call 2023 Promotion – Fast Track “January 1 – March 31, 2023 (Updated Links )

There was a Tier Last Call offer in January 2023 that allowed you to retain your status for another year, and we’ll know in a week or two if this returns in 2024.

Conclusion

Last year, Hilton took over two weeks to update the status for 2023 around January 12. Let’s see how long we need to wait in 2024.

This is pretty standard practice. Paid reservations are honored, while award stays are not.

I am a bit surprised that “ALL” benefits would be honored, but you can no longer earn points or elite qualifying nights unless you credit these stays to Hilton Honors.

The Hilton Honors elite benefits for the Hilton Garden Inn brand are quite limited, as these hotels don’t offer executive lounges. You basically can get an upgrade, breakfast, and a late checkout.

Conclusion

It is the season of reflags and deflags. Owners who are unsatisfied with the brand’s performance are switching in the hopes of attracting more guests with higher rates.

Usually, these arrangements with hotel owners and brands can last for several decades, with a significant penalty for the owner to switch the affiliation and terminate the contract early.

Obviously, these Pullman and Novotel brands haven’t worked for the hotel owner (I assume these two properties have the same owner), and the communication about the switch tends to go out very late and sometimes not at all.

When I was pulling up the images for these two hotels, I remembered staying at this Novotel in 2013, when it also had Fenix on its name. It wasn’t a spectacular back then. I hope that the owner has spent some cash renovating it.

I will at least check out the Hilton Bangkok Grande Asoke when I return to the city in March.

We have covered when and how you should use Hilton Honors points several times, and American Express offering a 30% bonus for converting points doesn’t mean you should do that.

Hilton has points capped in place for standard rooms at all hotels, but at the same time, the standard room point costs are very high in many hotels compared to paid rates.

We are usually left with two scenarios when using Honors points is a sound choice:

1. When Paid Rates Are Very High

When paid rates are astronomical and standard rooms are still available, you can redeem them at the set rate.

2. At “Aspirational Properties”

You can save significantly using your points at Hilton’s most sought-after properties in the Maldives, Seychelles, French Polynesia, and even Mexico.

Conclusion

I would not convert points from a flexible program into a partner one unless I have a clear plan of when and where to burn them. You should not just convert when there is a conversion bonus.

Also, always compare the cash rates to the award pricing to make sense of the current ratio and see if it’s worth redeeming points, let alone transferring them over.

There is something new on this list – INDEPENDENT Hotels:

The following hotels are not listed under any of the Hilton’s existing brands, but I was able to decode their future branding by looking at the property code:

The Mainport Hotel in Rotterdam was previously affiliated with SPG’s and later Marriott’s Design Hotels but apparently has exited their system to join Hilton’s Curio Collection. I have stayed there once.

It is unclear what benefits Hilton Honors members receive for stays at “Independent” hotels, and we have sought clarification from Hilton.

The openings from looking at the list above are a bit on the soft side. Let’s see if openings at a more rapid pace are coming online in 2024.
