Amex Hotel Collection reservations, just like Fine Hotels & Resorts, require a prepayment if you want to use your annual US$200 Hotel Credit, so walking away from a reservation isn’t as easy and requires some effort.

Usually, I only go after such a stressful exercise if it’s absolutely worth it, but in this case, I felt that the property credit would have been completely wasted, and I really didn’t want to stay another night there, so I decided to go for it.

I have stayed at this Grand Hyatt hotel multiple times, and in fact, it was one of the best hotels in Shanghai, with an excellent Club Lounge in the past. Both have been wiped out, and the service culture and quality have been absolutely decimated ever since the pandemic. Now, sadly, the hotel is only a shadow of its former self.

Here is the booking as I originally placed it:

Minus $200 credit, this meant $110/night for the Grand Hyatt and $100 F&B credit to use at the hotel’s outlets, which was an extremely attractive deal to me. You can add your loyalty number to THC bookings with Hyatt and also earn stay credit (doesn’t go for all THC bookings with other brands so careful with that). I was upgraded to a Grand Suite as well, so pre-stay, I was very positive about what to expect.

But it quickly turned sour upon arrival. Only two employees at the front desk, a third that didn’t speak any English. The elevator to the Club Lounge on the 83rd floor for check-in requires a keycard, but no staff is around to let you go up. I went to the 85th floor, where there is a restaurant, and tried to use the floor phone to call someone up. The phone was a piece of broken plastic that didn’t work. A restaurant employee eventually called someone from the lounge up with a key card.

Talking about the lounge, this is representative of what was on offer at the Grand Club later that evening:

Absolutely inedible slob. Other items were either out entirely or looked similar. I grabbed some sparkling water and just left trying to utilize my dining credit.

Unfortunately, the hotel doesn’t have any great F&B spots anymore, and the only option given to me was the buffet restaurant, which didn’t have any seats available that evening, or the Oyster Bar on the 85th floor – the supposed “Best restaurant at the hotel”. I walked in and the first thing I heard was kids watching cartoons on a tablet, I left immediately.

At this point, I told the manager to get in touch with Amex to have them refund the reservation, and I’d just pay them for the daily member rate in cash (1080 RMB) for one night. I left the hotel and went to the adjacent IFC mall to grab something proper to eat.

After a walk, I got back three hours later only to find that the front desk manager had done absolutely nothing since I left him, at which point I called the Hyatt Concierge hotline to open a file and put the matter on record in case it went sour later.

The next morning, I talked to a senior manager at the hotel, who got the file submitted in the meantime. He agreed to have Amex refund it and told me he’d get in touch with them. 10 minutes later he called back and told me they currently have a “system error” and can’t do anything.

Of course that’s total BS – the fastest I ever got someone on the phone and dealt with reservations was 10-15 mins. I called myself, and the Amex Travel agent was really helpful; I gave her the direct line of the manager, and she called him. Another deception on his part happened when he told the Amex agent the refund would be 110 RMB, which confused her as that’s like 14 bucks.

When she told me that, I put him on speakerphone and ripped him a new one until he finally told her what was earlier agreed to – authorizing a full refund to Amex and a direct payment for the first night from me to the property.

The refund arrived within 36 hours:

I decided to book the Shangri-La Shanghai nearby for one night, which came to $195 under the FHR program, where I got a nice room, breakfast, and late checkout under the FHR benefits together with the F&B credit. This hotel has EXCELLENT food and beverage outlets, and despite being an older property, it’s still one of the best in Shanghai.

I really wish the Grand Hyatt gets it together again, finds some proper associates, and invests in the upkeep and cleanliness of public facilities. It’s a shame that this property came down to such a low level.

Conclusion

This was really a headache and probably not honestly really worth all the effort on my end, but I just didn’t want to stay at the Grand Hyatt anymore, considering the condition the hotel is in. It was really shocking and there appears to be a talent crunch for hospitality workers in China that’s even worse than pre-Covid.

Anyone with a bit of intelligence, language ability, and talent goes to other industries where a better salary is paid, which totally makes sense.

I was quite happy that American Express was understanding and agreed to process the refund without any questions or complaints. The hotel credit is finally gone now, and I don’t have to think about it anymore for the 2024 calendar year. I might book more FHR/THC rates, but as long as you don’t need to use your credit, there is no need to prepay for these reservations.

Readers are encouraged to send us questions, comments, or opinions by email, FacebookTwitter, or Instagram. We’ll try to cover them here several times a week.

A reader noticed from the last post that I was in China and had the great idea to let me know that trying the UrCove brand is probably not the best idea for me, to say the least.

For a bit of history, Hyatt started a joint venture with a new hotel brand in China called UrCove By Hyatt, and that was widely promoted in the local market and even abroad. These hotels also show up in searches for awards.

You can access the brand website here.

Following that, Frank wrote me the following email:

Hi Sebastian,

I noticed you’re in China right now so just a word of warning if you’re planning on staying at Hyatt’s UrCove properties – not all of them actually accept foreigners even though they take reservations.

This happened to me at the UrCove Beijing Wangfujing where I had a reservation but when I showed up they were unable to check me in. What might have contributed to the confusion is that I’m Canadian-Chinese with a Chinese first and last name. They accepted my reservation but when I presented my Canadian passport they were not amused or least told me immediately “Foreigners can’t stay here”. My wife is still a Chinese citizen so she checked in but they wouldn’t accept her U.S. credit card and she paid via ePay instead.

FYI: Many hotels in China aren’t set up utility wise to accept foreigners and that’s due to the reporting requirements to the authorities. But I was surprised to run into this with a brand touting their affiliation with Hyatt, an American brand.

I didn’t encounter these problems at other UrCove properties such as Shanghai Jing’An, but a word of warning should you decide to go there: It is a VERY select service, and the employees often speak very little English or none at all. Respectfully: I think you’d go mental there!

Enjoy your trip in Shanghai and let me know if I can be of any help!

-Frank

Wow – that really blew my mind as well. I mean it makes sense because what he says is indeed the case. Chinese hotels strictly have to report every foreigner staying at the hotel to the Public Security Bureau through an electronic system. If you stay at a private address you have to go to a designated office in the local district to do the reporting yourself.

This is not a loose requirement; they do follow up on this, and if there are unexplainable gaps (several nights or weeks unreported), you’ll be picked out the next time you leave or enter China and questioned.

I checked the property in Beijing Frank mentioned here, and it isn’t offered on the Hyatt website. I assume he made that reservation locally through their own systems, so I don’t hold that against Hyatt in this case. But maybe it would be best to equip and train all their hotels to accept foreigners if the brand carries the Hyatt moniker.

I was motivated by that email to try the Urcove Shanghai Jing An yesterday. As he said, it didn’t go well. I reserved the hotel for 5,000 points (it was over US$100 last night so good value) but first there were communication issues, they wouldn’t provide an upgrade and then there was a heater constantly blowing warm air into the room.

They also had some issues registering me because my passport didn’t have a visa, but all was fine in the end. Until I left, that is. Everyone was friendly and helpful though; it wasn’t a bad experience based on staff.

As a remedy, they said I should open the window (bad pollution yesterday). I left after 20 minutes and stayed at the Conrad on points. Hyatt refunded the 5k within an hour after emailing Consumer Affairs.

Have any of you experienced a problem with this UrCove brand?

Conclusion

There seems to be a problem with these UrCove by Hyatt hotels in China as far as catering to foreigners is concerned. English capability of the employees is close to zero, and there are some properties that don’t accept foreign guests or foreign credit cards. Amazing that Hyatt would allow this. Why not make all properties compliant?

The design at the JingAn property was actually pretty nice, and even the room was functional, but I couldn’t sleep with hot heating air in the room, so I had to leave. Maybe I try the Pudong property this week before leaving, and even if I don’t stay there the entire night, I book it until leaving late to the airport and at least clock in the brand.

You have to remember that Hyatt has moved some of the benefits based on the number of nights consumed or base points earned.

There was a similar fast-track offer in 2023 also for Bilt members (read more here), and I wouldn’t be surprised if that returns later this year.

It does appear, however, that Hyatt failed to improve some of the most obvious problems with the WOH program, and that is the mediocre points earning ratio relative to revenue spent at the properties.

The ability to earn points, which then in turn can be used for free nights (or, in some cases, airline miles), is the most important feature of a loyalty program in addition to elite benefits.

Hyatt has traditionally missed out on providing an adequate and (in my opinion) fair earning ratio. This was still somewhat okay for as long as the former Hyatt Gold Passport [now World of Hyatt] provided generous promotions and reasonably low redemption values.

But now, we haven’t seen great points-earning/accelerating promotions for quite a while, and since Hyatt introduced peak awards, some hotels became pretty much unobtainable through points, even for Globalist members.

You can access Hyatt’s website here to look at all the earning and spending abilities as a WOH member.

Here is how you earn:

And some bonus benefits for tier members:

The bonus is really negligible compared to the competition (Hilton, Marriott, IHG) absolutely mediocre.

Hyatt Globalist earns a lousy 30% bonus on the already very low base earning of 5 points per USD (pre tax).

In comparison, the bonus for the top tier members of other chains:

  • Hilton Diamond 100% (even Gold earns 80%)
  • IHG Diamond 100%
  • Marriott Titanium 75%

You can’t compare each program prima facie without getting into the exact cost for redemptions but after playing this game for 20 years now, Hyatt has unfortunately dropped the ball on rewards for earned points based on property spent and instead morphed into a rewards system for Chase credit cards.

As it stands right now, credit card holders of the Chase Hyatt Visa (and Sapphire Preferred/Reserve) are gaining more from pumping credit card spend than someone who is a long-term member and spends money at Hyatt Hotels.

Here are the upcoming changes that John wrote about last month and which are about to kick in soon:

World Of Hyatt Milestone Rewards, Guest of Honor, Award Transferability & Meeting Planner Program Changes For 2024

There are some good improvements in the mix, but they haven’t gone far enough, in my opinion. A somewhat decent hotel will cost you anywhere from 15-20k these days depending on seasonality of the award. A good one between 20-30k+.

If you consider that you earn five base points per USD spent, not considering taxes and service charges, Then these are crazy thresholds.

Unfortunately, the only way to make the World of Hyatt program work is by being able to spend money on a Chase branded credit card that allows earning with Hyatt (only available in the U.S.) or by asking hotels to provide compensation for problems you encounter in points. Just earning the plain way simply isn’t going to get you anywhere anymore.

Conclusion

Hyatt is extremely stringy when it comes to awarding members with a fair points ratio relative to the money spent at hotels, all while showering credit card holders with tons of points and elite nights. This has thrown a wrench into the machine of the programs and the increase in award prices over the years as well as the introduction of seasonality surcharges compounded the problem even more.

They have to do something about this, especially the low bonuses extended to Globalist members. The 30% points bonus is a complete joke, as the industry standard is 75-100% for the top tier level. The only saving grace is that Hyatt Hotels treats Globalist members very well when it comes to the property level. But not everybody is a Globalist, and 60 nights at hotels per year is no easy feat, especially with a small footprint and traditionally higher rates such as Hyatt.

Conclusion

LoyaltyLobby readers should be well aware of my opinion of all-inclusives that have been all between bad and awful with two exceptions (Le Meridien Maldives, where you can buy a package and order from the standard menu, and JW Masai Mara, a safari lodge with food and drinks included).

You get bad food and booze, and all-inclusives tend to attract a segment of guests that are rowdy and heavy drinkers, something that I want to be as far away as possible.

I do get why some may like these, but I rather pay for quality food and drinks.

Overall, this promo is poor unless you already have a qualifying award lined up and have one of the two cobranded Hyatt/Chase cards. Why not collect the 5K bonus?

Key Changes

1. Milestone Rewards

Hyatt extends Milestone Rewards from 100 to 150 nights in a calendar year.

2. Guest of Honor

It is no longer an unlimited Globalist benefit but is based on Milestone Rewards. It will be valid on both paid and award stays in 2024.

3. Award Transferability

All awards are transferable once between member accounts.

4. Meetings & Events Planners + Travel Advisors

You can earn up to 60 elite night credits yearly by earning 2 for every $5,000.

Guest of Honor

The Guest of Honor moves from being a Globalist benefit to a Milestone Reward, each valid for up to 7 nights, applicable to both awards and paid rates (currently only awards), the first option being at 40 nights (a non-Globalist member can earn one and apply it for their stay).

Globalist members who have earned the status for 2024 will receive 5 Guest of Honor awards valid for checkout dates up to February 28, 2025.

Members that gift the Guest of Honors award will receive one elite qualifying night after the receiver uses it.

You can use the existing Guest of Honor benefit until February 28, 2025, for stays up to February 28, 2026. Hyatt will, however, first use the Guest of Honor rewards. You can gift or transfer them first and then use the legacy benefit.

Lifetime Globalist members will receive 5 Guest of Honors awards yearly, valid for 12 months after issuance. Lifetime members can also earn Guest of Honors awards based on the Milestone Rewards.

Meeting & Event Planners

World of Hyatt members can earn tier-qualifying nights for meetings and events. You can earn 2 tier-qualifying nights for every $5,000 for up to 60 nights in a calendar year.

The qualifying spend is cumulative and can be held over multiple meetings and events. Hyatt discontinues the possibility of earning status based on the NUMBER of meetings (3 for Discoverist, 10 for Explorist, and 20 for Globalist).

Travel Advisors

Travel Advisors who are Prive members can earn 2 elite qualifying credits for every $5,000 in client bookings for up to 60 elite night credits in a calendar year. This is a new benefit.

Conclusion

Quite a few changes and mostly positive, although some who book many short Guest of Honor awards for friends & family members could be losers here, as now you can have up to 10 per year depending on how many nights the Globalist member consumes in a calendar year and what they choose as their Milestone Rewards option.

The Club Lounge Awards are suddenly more valuable when you can easily transfer them to non-Globalist members, as are the Suite Upgrade and Guest of Honor awards.

Meeting and Event planners may earn the status easier if they hold expensive meetings or events, as you can earn Globalist based on $150K spent. The same applies to Prive Travel Advisors, who previously couldn’t qualify for status based on clients spent.

The award transferability may create a “market” where non-Globalist members buy and apply them to their stays. Suite Upgrade, Guest of Honors, and Club Lounge Access Awards can be very valuable at higher-end Hyatt hotels.

I have previously criticized Hyatt for stopping Milestone Rewards at 100 nights (hit that number the other year and currently standing at 97 nights for 2023), and now they have expanded them to 150. These changes will probably result in me moving some stays to Hyatt in 2024 that would have otherwise gone elsewhere.

Frequently Asked Questions by Hyatt:

Program Updates

  1. What is changing in 2024 for World of Hyatt?

World of Hyatt is introducing new Milestones, new choices within Milestone Rewards, and new ways to share and use your awards. First, the Milestone Rewards chart is expanding beyond 100 nights. Now you will earn awards at 110, 120, 130, 140, and 150 qualifying nights each year.

We are also adding exciting new choices throughout Milestone Rewards. Please see above for the new Milestone Rewards.

Members will earn Guest of Honor Awards as part of Milestone Rewards and be able to use the awards on eligible paid or award stays for up to seven nights, enabling themselves and those they care about to have a Globalist experience during their stay. Effective January 1, 2024, Guest of Honor will no longer be a Globalist benefit. Members will earn their first Guest of Honor Award at 40 Tier Qualifying Nights or 65,000 Base Points earned in a calendar year and have the opportunity to earn up to 10 Guest of Honor Awards each year. (If, on 12/31/23, you have Globalist status for some or all of 2024, please see FAQ No. 14 below for details on how this change will affect you.)

We are also making it easy for you to share awards with those you care about–either by transferring the award itself or by making an award reservation for another World of Hyatt member. You will be able to gift nearly all awards to another World of Hyatt member from your account page on the site or app, or by calling Guest Services. You will need the member’s last name and World of Hyatt member number of the person you choose to gift an award.

Lastly, starting in 2024, meeting and event planners, travel advisors, and qualifying small-business owners can earn Tier Qualifying Night credits based on eligible spend at Hyatt. More details can be found above and in the FAQs below.

Please see the program terms for complete details on how the program will operate in 2024 and beyond.

Earning, choosing, and gifting awards

  1. How do I earn Milestone Rewards?

Milestone Rewards are earned starting at 20 Tier Qualifying Nights in a calendar year and for every 10 qualifying nights up to 150. See above for new Milestone Rewards. You can also reach some Milestone Rewards based on the number of Base Points you earn in a calendar year. Learn more about Tier Qualifying Nights and Base Points here.

  1. How do I choose Milestone Rewards?

Choose your award online or in the World of Hyatt app in your Account, via a link in the email you’ll receive offering a choice or call a Global Care Center. You have 90 days after the Milestone was achieved to make your choice.

  1. How do I gift an award?

Eligible Awards can be transferred to another World of Hyatt member’s account from your account on Hyatt.com or on the app. In your account under your Available Awards tab, choose the option to gift your award. You can also call a Global Care Center to gift an award. You will need the last name and World of Hyatt number of the person you choose to gift.

  1. Instead of gifting my award, can I just book an award stay on behalf of someone else?

Yes, for some awards, you can book award stays on behalf of someone else. Free Night Awards, certain Room Upgrade Awards, Points + Cash Awards, and Guest of Honor Awards are eligible to be booked in the name of another person.

  1. Does the recipient of the award have to be a World of Hyatt member?

Yes. If they are not a member, they can enroll here first.

  1. I gifted an award to someone, but they don’t need it anymore. Can I get it back?

If you transferred an award to another member’s account, no. An award can only be gifted one time and cannot be transferred back. Transfers are not rescindable or reversable.

If you booked an award reservation on behalf of someone else–and they cancel the reservation in accordance with the applicable property’s cancellation policy–the award (or points redeemed for the award) will be credit back to your account as the member who made the reservation.

  1. How long will it take for an award to appear in my account after I’ve chosen it?

Please allow up to five business days for an award to appear in your account.

  1. I’m a Lifetime Globalist–am I eligible for any of the Milestone Rewards?

As a Lifetime Globalist, you are eligible to earn Milestone Rewards by completing eligible activity.

  1. I don’t like any of the Milestone Reward options available. Can I get points instead?

When points are a choice in Milestone Rewards, you can choose points as your award. (Every milestone offers the ability either to choose Bonus Points or to select an award that offers the opportunity to earn Bonus Points.) Otherwise, you’ll need to choose from the options provided. Once an award is chosen, it cannot be exchanged for any other award. If you elect an eligible award, you can also gift the award to another member.

Guest of Honor

  1. What is a Guest of Honor Award?

Guest of Honor is an award that bestows Globalist in-hotel benefits to the recipient on an eligible paid or award stay, up to seven nights. This includes (as more fully described and subject to the limitations in the program terms):

Waived resort fees, including on eligible paid stays

Club Access or free breakfast for up to four registered guests (two adults and two children)

Room upgrades, subject to availability

Elite check-in and late checkout

Premium Internet

Bottled water

Free parking on award nights

While Globalists receive a 30% point bonus on eligible spend, Guests of Honor stays will not. (Guest of Honor benefits are limited to “In-Hotel Benefits,” as described in the World of Hyatt program terms. Elite tier point bonuses are not an In-Hotel Benefit.)

We encourage you to gift the award to make someone’s stay special, so when someone else uses your Guest of Honor award, you will get one Tier Qualifying Night credit when they check out. (Please note that the Tier Qualifying Night credit will go to the member who first gifted the award, even if the Guest of Honor award gift recipient later redeems the Guest of Honor Award on a reservation they’ve booked for another person.)

  1. Do I get free parking with my Guest of Honor stays?

Guest of Honor Awards provide the recipient with the same in-hotel benefits as are provided to Globalists. While Globalists receive free parking on nights for which they’ve redeemed a free night award, Globalists do not receive free parking on a paid night’s stay.

  1. How is Guest of Honor changing?

Guest of Honor is moving from a Globalist benefit to an award that is earned through Milestone Rewards. The first Guest of Honor Award is earned when a member stays 40 qualifying nights or earns 65,000 Base Points in a calendar year.

Unlike the legacy Globalist Guest of Honor benefit, Guest of Honor Awards will be usable on Eligible Rate paid and award stays for up to seven nights. Guest of Honor still bestows Globalist in-hotel benefits for the registered guest on the reservation.

Because Guest of Honor Awards can now be earned at 40 qualifying nights in a calendar year (before Globalist status is earned), you can choose to make yourself the Guest of Honor and experience the benefits of Globalist status by using the award on your own stay.

We are also adding exciting new value for Members who gift a Guest of Honor Award. When your guest checks out of their Guest of Honor Award stay, you will receive one Tier Qualifying Night credit as a thank you for sharing your award. (Please note that the Tier Qualifying Night credit will go to the member who first gifted the award, even if the Guest of Honor award gift recipient later redeems the Guest of Honor Award on a reservation they’ve booked for another person.)

Guest of Honor Awards can be gifted (through your account or by calling a Global Care Center) to another World of Hyatt member. Once gifted, that member can book their own Guest of Honor stay through Hyatt.com or by calling a Global Care Center. You can also book your Guest of Honor’s stay for them by calling a Global Care Center.

  1. I am a current Globalist or Lifetime Globalist as of December 31, 2023.  How will the changes to Guest of Honor impact me?

All members who are Globalist or Lifetime Globalist as of December 31, 2023, will receive five complimentary Guest of Honor Awards in their account in January 2024. These complimentary Guest of Honor Awards expire on February 28, 2025.

Should a Lifetime Globalist as of December 31, 2023, or a Globalist as of December 31, 2023, who has a tier expiration of February 28, 2025 or later, gift or apply all of their Guest of Honor Awards, they may then use the legacy Globalist Guest of Honor benefit for Free Night Awards as described in the terms until February 28, 2025, by calling a Global Care Center – except that Globalists who have a tier expiration date later than February 28, 2025, may use this benefit until February 28, 2026. (In all cases, all available Guest of Honor Awards must be gifted or applied to a reservation first.)

Should a Globalist as of December 31, 2023, have a tier expiration of February 29, 2024, and gift or apply all of their Guest of Honor Awards, they may then use the legacy Globalist Guest of Honor benefit for Free Night Awards until February 29, 2024, by calling a Global Care Center. (All available Guest of Honor Awards must be gifted or applied to a reservation first.)

Unlike the new Guest of Honor Awards, the legacy Globalist Guest of Honor tier benefit will continue to apply to Free Night Award stays only.

Awards

  1. Will the Ultimate Free Night Award be good at all-inclusive and Miraval resorts?

The Ultimate Free Night Award can be used for a standard room at all Category 1-8 hotels and resorts and Category A-F All-Inclusive resorts that participate in World of Hyatt and offer standard-room accommodations. It can also be used at Miraval for single or double occupancy in a standard room.

The Ultimate Free Night Award is not applicable for redemption at Homes & Hideaways by World of Hyatt.

  1. How does the 2K Next Stay Award work?

After choosing 2K Next Stay as your award at the 20 and/or 30 qualifying-night Milestone, you have 180 days to stay and check out of an eligible stay at Hyatt Place, Hyatt House, Caption by Hyatt, or UrCove hotel. Upon checkout, you will receive 2,000 Bonus Points. You do not need to attach the award to your stay; it will automatically activate for stays at these brands.

If you choose this award at both the 20 night and 30 night milestone and have two awards associated with your account at one time, you will earn 2,000 Bonus Points per eligible stay. You will need to complete two distinct, eligible stays to earn 4,000 Bonus Points.

This award cannot be gifted or transferred, but once earned, the points can be. More information on transferring points can be found here.

  1. What will the expiration date be for each of the new awards?

Always check the terms and conditions of your awards for this information.

2K Next Stay Award is valid for one hundred and eighty (180) days from the date of issuance.  It must be redeemed for a reservation with a checkout date on or before the expiration of the award.

A FIND credit is valid for the remainder of the calendar year in which it is issued, plus an additional fourteen (14) months.

Guest of Honor Awards earned through Milestone Rewards are valid for the remainder of the calendar year in which they are earned, plus an additional 14 months, and must be redeemed for a reservation with a checkout date on or before the expiration of the award.

The Ultimate Free Night award is valid for one hundred and eighty (180) days from the date of issuance and must be redeemed for a reservation with a checkout date on or before the expiration of the award.

Miraval Extra Night Award is valid for one hundred and eighty (180) days from the date of issuance and must be redeemed for a reservation with a checkout date on or before the expiration of the award.

Complete terms for all awards can be found here.

  1. Can I exchange any of my existing Club Access Awards for something else?

No program award – including Club Access Awards – is exchangeable.

  1. Can a Suite Upgrade Award be used with a Free Night Award?

Category 1-7, Category 1-4, Ultimate Free Night Awards, and other promotional Free Night Awards cannot be combined with Suite Upgrade Awards. You can use a Suite Upgrade Award on nights for which you have paid an eligible rate or have redeemed points for a standard-room or club free night award or a standard-room Points + Cash award.

  1. What is FIND and how do I use that credit?

FIND is a marketplace that offers access to carefully curated wellbeing experiences to help inspire people to be their best selves. After choosing the FIND credit as your Milestone choice, you will receive an email with a certificate code. Sign into the FIND platform with your World of Hyatt member number and add your certificate code to the “Manage your gift certificates” section within your account homepage.

  1. Are FIND awards combinable? For example, if I select multiple FIND credits, can I apply more than one credit to a single experience purchase?
Yes, you can apply multiple FIND credits to your purchase of a single FIND experience.

Meeting and Event Planners, Travel Advisors, and Small Business Owners

  1. What is changing for Meeting and Event Planners?

Meeting and event planners can now earn Milestone Rewards and elite status by earning Tier Qualifying Night credits based on eligible event spend billed to a Group Master or Master Account. For every $5,000 (USD) in eligible event spend billed to a Group Master bill in a calendar year, the meeting planner will earn two (2) Tier Qualifying Night credits, up to a maximum of sixty (60) Tier-Qualifying Night credits each year. Spend can be associated to only one (1) member per event, and spend is accrued across events throughout the calendar year. Terms and Conditions for meeting and event planner earning can be found here.

Tier status may still be earned based on Qualifying Meetings until December 31, 2024. Please see immediately below for more details.

  1. As a meeting planner, I planned to earn tier status in 2024 through Qualifying Meetings. Can I still do so?

Qualifying Meetings will continue to be tracked for 2024, and we will award status based on Qualifying Meetings held in 2024. This earning will run in parallel with the new spend-based earning structure. You’ll earn status based on the method that gets you to tier status the fastest.

  1. What does this mean for my Company World of Hyatt Account?

As in the past, Company World of Hyatt accounts can continue to earn Bonus Points on eligible event spend arising from hosting qualifying events.

In addition, starting in 2024, Company World of Hyatt accounts will also be able to earn Tier-Qualifying Night credits based on eligible event spend billed to a Group Master or Master Account. For every $5,000 (USD) in eligible event spend billed to a Group Master bill in a calendar year, the Company World of Hyatt Account associated with the applicable event will earn two (2) Tier Qualifying Night credits – up to a maximum of sixty (60) Tier-Qualifying Night credits each year. Spend can be associated to only one (1) World of Hyatt Account per event, and spend is accrued across events throughout the calendar year.

By accruing Tier-Qualifying Night credits in a calendar year, Company World of Hyatt Accounts will be able to earn Milestone Rewards and gift eligible Milestone Awards to other Members. (Company Accounts will also remain able to redeem Bonus Points earned for program awards.)

Please note that – through the earning of Tier-Qualifying Night credits as described above – a Company World of Hyatt Account may satisfy the requirements for earning tier status in the World of Hyatt program (and this may be nominally reflected on the online account dashboard of a Company World of Hyatt Account). However, a Company World of Hyatt Account is not eligible to receive any In-Hotel benefits or other tier benefits available to individual members.

Complete terms and conditions applicable to Company World of Hyatt Account participation in World of Hyatt can be found here.

  1. What is changing for Hyatt Privé travel advisors?

Starting in 2024, Hyatt Privé travel advisors will now be able to earn Milestone Rewards and elite status through spend made by their clients. For every $5,000 (USD) in eligible room-rate spend by their clients (cumulatively) in a calendar year, the advisor will earn two (2) Tier Qualifying Night credits, up to a maximum of sixty (60) Tier-Qualifying Night credits each calendar year – enough to earn Globalist status with the World of Hyatt. Terms and conditions for Privé can be found here.

  1. What is changing for travel advisors?

When booking travel for their clients, travel advisors booking directly with Hyatt will be able to earn Milestone Rewards and elite status. Terms and Conditions for travel advisors can be found here.

  1. As a travel advisor, can I also earn Tier Qualifying Night credits if I book through a consortium or other third-party site?

Travel advisors will be able to earn Tier Qualifying Night credits on eligible room-rate spend when booking through Hyatt direct channels (as described in the questions immediately above). Room rate spend from reservations made through a consortium or other third-party site will not be eligible for Tier Qualifying Night credits for the advisor.

  1. As a travel advisor/Hyatt Privé advisor/qualifying small-business owner, how do I know how close I am to earning Tier Qualifying Night credits with World of Hyatt?

Contact a Global Care Center to check your eligible accrued spend year-to-date. Once Tier Qualifying Night credits are earned, they will show up in the Account Overview section of your account.
