Shangri-La Members that have Jade or Diamond status are entitled to enroll in the Match&Fast Track campaign and will receive instant KrisFlyer Silver Status plus Gold Status after 1 (Diamond) or 3 (Gold) flight segments within four months after signup.

Last year, Shangri-La Circle made it possible to extend the tier status for one additional year by having just one transaction on the account, which could be as easy as buying a coffee at a Shangri-La hotel or having a meal.

Just like many other members, I extended my Jade status until December 31, 2023, which means that I’ll soon drop from that tier as I didn’t renew it (I had zero stays with Shangri-La in 2023).

I had never used the KrisFlyer Status promotion through Infinite Journeys before and decided that I’d sign up this time before I lost my easy chance for SQ Gold.

Reminder To Apply For The Singapore Airlines & Shangri-La Gold Status Match Before Status Years End

As I summarized this article, I pushed my registration out as long as possible, but I didn’t leave it until the last minute in case of technical issues. Maybe around December 20th is a good date.

Well, as my luck had it, the match didn’t work, and it did nothing to my SIA KrisFlyer account.

Some readers commented their match only took mere seconds and they were immediately upgraded to Silver, others reported problems and since then we also received email from readers that they ran into the same issue as me.

Just like I advised readers, I left ~ 10 days to contact SIA/Shangri La in case of technical issues, which I did. Their replies weren’t precisely promising:

I’m not surprised; Singapore Airlines’ customer service is absolutely horrendous if something goes wrong. They’re always running around like headless chickens without being able to figure anything out, not just in this particular incident.

We had a reader case whose SQ Gold status was constantly read as basic by other Star Alliance members following the Covid status extensions, and the member services were unable to solve the issue despite the member having an active gold card in the app.

Shangri-La wasn’t much better:

Complete nonsense. I did everything that was required from the customer side, and this wasn’t the first time I executed the match online, as I’ve done so for other people’s accounts in the past. it always worked fine.

In the end – today is January 8th – my Jade status lapsed, and the SIA account wasn’t signed up for the promotion.

At least this is one less worry for me that I don’t have to find some trip to fly Singapore Airlines on until April.

On top of it all I have Marriott Lifetime Platinum plus current Titanium status, meaning I can avail myself to that partnership if I so desire.

Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer Gold & Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite Status Match & Fast Track Campaign

At least with this partnership, the time frame is longer to complete 4 flight segments on SIA, and I don’t have the pressure to do so within the next few months.

I’m currently in Korea and will go back to Thailand on a flight that I have already booked. I won’t travel out of the country again until late March, and then I’m likely heading to Japan for Sakura. It’s not exactly a cheap route on SIA, and I certainly won’t do it in Economy.

Conclusion

My attempt to use the Shangri-La Infinite Journeys partnership with Singapore Airlines didn’t exactly go according to plan, and the registration didn’t go through.

Aside from creating material for a couple of articles and keeping our readers informed, the money I spent on the meal at Shangri-La Bangkok to extend the Jade status in 2022 was, therefore, a complete waste of money (together with the worst pasta I’ve eaten in a long time).

The Krisflyer Gold Fast Track requires four Singapore Airlines segments to be credited within six months after enrollment, while the Bonvoy Platinum Fast Track prescribes ten qualifying nights within six months.

Matches are available for the lower tiers (to the respective lower status in the partner program) as well as the higher tier levels, which fast-track up to KrisFlyer Gold and Marriott Platinum.

This campaign is similar to the Shangri-La Infinite Journeys partnership I wrote about a few days ago, with the difference being that Shangri-La is really a niche program while Marriott Bonvoy is a mass market program with A LOT of elite members that are eligible for this campaign.

The closer partnership between Marriott and Singapore Airlines started in January of this year when both loyalty programs touted a two-way conversion feature:

Of course, the only new feature was that now Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer miles can be redeemed for Marriott points at a horrendous ratio of 2:1 while the ability to exchange Bonvoy points to KrisFlyer miles remained at 3:1 (plus a 5,000-mile bonus for every 60k points/20k miles transferred).

I haven’t yet done so because I intend to use the Shangri-La Infinite Journeys match first since that status will expire for me in two weeks’ time, and it only requires three segments vs. four with Marriott (although within four months, not six).

I haven’t held KrisFlyer status for a long time, and I think the last was when I had PPS status in 2008. This is definitely a great addition to both programs; undoubtedly, Marriott members profit the most from provided they can manage to take the required four Singapore Airlines segments in six months.

Members in North America should consider the fifth freedom flights operated by Singapore Airlines between Los Angeles and Tokyo as well as the New York JFK – Frankfurt route. Both of these are always priced rather moderately and definitely have a much higher quality than North American or European carriers.

Conclusion

Marriott and Singapore Airlines have started a new status match and fast track option to deepen their partnership and allow elite members of both programs to match over and also fast track to a higher tier level with substantial benefits.

Once the fast track and match are activated, it takes approximately 24-48 hours before the KrisFlyer account is upgraded to Silver status, and the counter starts for members to credit their SQ flight segments to the account in order to get it going.

Keep in mind that you may only register for the membership status match benefit once. A renewed registration (with the same account/s) would fail. You can, of course, try to do it with a new account, but I’m confident the system would catch it.

These flights can be in any regular ticketed cabin, even the cheapest Economy fare, in order to count.:

If you are a Shangri-La Circle Jade member, you can enjoy an accelerated upgrade to KrisFlyer Elite Gold simply by flying three times on Singapore Airlines in any booking class except ‘G’ (Group fares) within four months of registration. Award and codeshare flights are not eligible for this accelerated upgrade. Miles earned from the qualifying flights must be credited to your KrisFlyer membership account first to be eligible for the accelerated upgrade.

If you are Shangri-La Circle Diamond member, you can enjoy an accelerated upgrade to KrisFlyer Elite Gold by simply flying once on Singapore Airlines in any booking class except ‘G’ within four months of registration. Award and codeshare flights are not eligible for this accelerated upgrade. Miles earned from the qualifying flight must be credited to your KrisFlyer membership account first to be eligible for the accelerated upgrade.

The flights must be operated by the SIA mainline and be revenue-based (no award flights). The only exception is tickets in booking class G, which apparently stands for group tickets.

After successfully crediting a sufficient amount of segments, KrisFlyer will send an email acknowledging the new status (usually within 48 hours), and from then on, the status is valid for one year (365 days). SQKF is one of the few programs that run after an accurate, revolving timestamp and not a calendar-year-based membership scheme from JAN-DEC.

The program is especially popular for members who like to redeem for the luxurious First Class Suites on the A380. Also, many awards are waitlisted and having Gold status definitely helps clearing the waitlist.

Conclusion

If your Shangri-La Circle Jade or Diamond status ends on December 31st, just like mine, you might want to consider signing up for the Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer Gold Track via Infinite Journeys.

This unique partnership is definitely great for status and very rare as Singapore Airlines usually doesn’t match status. If it makes sense for the individual member in the long run to credit miles to SQ KrisFlyer, it depends on the travel profile. I have done some lucrative redemptions with SQ in the past, but I’m heavily invested in the South East Asia region, where SIA offers many routing options.

For obvious reasons, this fast track is only viable for those who can easily hop on a SIA flight and clock in the required segments. The fact that the Jade/Gold match requires three segments doesn’t make it much easier, meaning a simple round trip Frankfurt-New York or Los Angeles-Tokyo isn’t sufficient.

I’m trying to push my registration out as long as possible, but I won’t leave it until the last minute in case of technical issues. Maybe around December 20th is a good date.

Spontaneous Escapes are an excellent way for those residing in Singapore or traveling there to redeem at fewer KrisFlyer miles.

There is a bit more availability than in the previous month, and the usual fifth freedom routes of New York – Frankfurt and Narita (Tokyo) – Los Angeles are the usual business class options from North America.

Also, there are more blackout dates on eligible routes than usual.

Here are the terms and conditions of this offer:

1. The KrisFlyer Spontaneous Escapes promotion (“Promotion”) is organized by Singapore Airlines Limited (“SIA”). The promotion is open to KrisFlyer members (“Participants”) for the online redemption of Promo Awards in Economy, Premium Economy and Business Class on selected Singapore Airlines operated flights. Spontaneous Escapes are an excellent way for those residing in Singapore or traveling there to redeem at fewer KrisFlyer miles.

Minimal long-haul business class availability to Europe or North America, as New York – Frankfurt (a fifth-freedom route) is the only option in business, and Narita LAX, Frankfurt – New York, and Singapore – San Francisco are the only long-haul Premium Economy options.

Also, there are more blackout dates on eligible routes than usual.

Here are the terms and conditions of this offer:

1. The KrisFlyer Spontaneous Escapes promotion (“Promotion”) is organized by Singapore Airlines Limited (“SIA”). The promotion is open to KrisFlyer members (“Participants”) for the online redemption of Promo Awards in Economy, Premium Economy and Business Class on selected Singapore Airlines operated flights. Please refer to the list of eligible flights above. The promotion is not valid for codeshare flights.
2. Eligible bookings can only be made through singaporeair.com or the SingaporeAir mobile app. This promotion is not available through KrisFlyer Membership Services, SIA Ticket Offices, travel agents, or any other channels.
3. To qualify for the Promotion, tickets must be issued between 23 October 2023 (0000 hrs, GMT+8) and 31 October 2023 (2359 hrs, GMT+8) (“Promotion Period”), both dates inclusive, for travel from 1 November 2023 (0000 hrs, GMT+8) to 30 November 2023 (2359 hrs, GMT+8) for all destinations.
4. If (i) any part of the itinerary is confirmed after the Promotion Period; (ii) or falls outside the applicable Travel Period; and/or (iii) contains an ineligible flight, the entire itinerary will not be eligible for the promotion. Please split your bookings for travel within and outside the promotional travel period.
5. Waitlist redemption is not available for all flights offered in this Promotion.

9. This promotion is applicable to one-way and round-trip travel. No stopovers are allowed for this promotion.
